What exactly is a component docket?
A printed sheet listing every part and every measurement that went into your club. Head model and loft, shaft with raw length and trim, ferrule bore, adapter setting, grip model, tape wraps per hand, cure window, and the finished length, lie and swing weight taken after the epoxy set. You keep one copy and we file one. It exists so the build can be reproduced by anybody, anywhere, without guesswork.
Do I need to be a good player for this to be worth it?
No, but you do need a repeating swing, which is a different thing. If your contact point moves four inches around the face from swing to swing, the data has too much noise to fit against and we will tell you that rather than take your money. A twenty handicap with consistent contact is a far better fitting candidate than a ten handicap who is mid-rebuild.
Why will you not release a club the same day?
Because the epoxy has not finished curing. Most shaft epoxies reach handling strength in a few hours and full strength somewhere past twenty-four. A club swung before that can shift inside the hosel by a fraction of a degree, which is enough to make the lie angle on your docket a lie. We would rather you wait a day.
Can I bring my own shaft or grips?
Yes. We fit customer-supplied components and charge labour only. The one thing we ask is that you accept the measurement outcome: if the shaft you brought does not suit your delivery, we will still install it if you want it, but the docket will record what we found.
How is your component pricing different from a retail store?
A retail store buys a club as a finished unit and marks up the whole thing. We buy parts and mark up the parts by a flat twelve percent, shown as its own line. On an expensive aftermarket wood shaft the difference is substantial. On a set of cheap grips it is a couple of dollars. Either way you can see the arithmetic.
What if the fitting says my current clubs are fine?
Then that is the result, and you still leave with a full gauge audit and a docket of what you already own, which is genuinely useful information. You pay the session fee for the bench time and nothing for parts. It happens often enough that we do not consider it a failed session.
Do you fit left-handed golfers?
Yes, with the same session structure. Component availability is narrower on the left side, particularly in wedge grinds and putter models, so we tend to spend more of a left-handed session on what can actually be sourced rather than on what exists in a catalogue.
How far in advance should I book?
Usually a week to ten days in spring and autumn, less in mid-summer when the heat thins the schedule out. If you need clubs finished by a specific date, count backwards: session, then component lead time of three to ten days, then a day of cure.
Is a launch monitor session outdoors or in a bay?
Indoors into a screen, with a doppler unit. That means carry numbers are modelled rather than measured through their whole flight, and we say so on the docket. For a driver session where curvature matters, we will often ask you to take the finished club out and report back, then adjust from what you saw on grass.
Do you work on clubs you did not build?
Constantly. A large share of the bench work here is fixing or adjusting clubs from elsewhere. We do not charge extra for it and we do not lecture, though we will tell you what we find when we pull a head off.
What about junior golfers who are still growing?
Fit for now, plan for later. Juniors get a shorter session at a lower fee, and the build gets specified so length can be added or the shaft reused where possible. We keep the docket, so when the growth spurt happens we already know exactly what is in the club.
Can you match a club I already love?
Usually. Bring it in and we will gauge it completely, then build the replacement to those numbers rather than to a catalogue specification. This is the single most common request the shop gets, and it is exactly what the docket system was designed to make possible.
